So, so, soooo much to say… I started teaching at Taylorsville Elementary School two weeks ago! New school, new district, new grade! Talk about a whirl wind of changes!
THE PERKS:
My students are ADORABLE!
I love my team and my principal!
It only takes me 12 minutes to get to my new school!
I get paid a couple thousand more a year!
Insurance is an awesome price!
Did I mention I love my team!
The Kidos:
I think I’m really going to like third grade! I love that the kids are older and are able to do so many more things and understand bigger concepts.
We had parent teacher conferences the first week of school and that was a little strange…I looked up their test scores from the year before and to help me and the parents make goals for the upcoming year. Meeting the parents is always interesting...entertaining, frightnining, and a lot of "ah ha" moments:)!
One set of parents argued about the custody their child right in front of me! A few parents needed translators. Something I never had at my last school... One family is from Somlia, Africa and we didn’t have any translators for them, so the fourth grade son translated and did a pretty good job (I’m assuming).
Another event from this kid involved slapping, punching, black eyes, and in school suspension!
This kid hates school and thinks everyone is an “ediat” spelled by him…
So needless to say, my new school is going to have it’s challenges…oh, and did I mention their reading levels, I have students who barely know their letter sounds up to kids who can read at a sixth grade level! I have my work cut out for me…but I feel empowered, knowing I am teaching children who really need it and appreciate it! Bring it on!

About Me
- Tiffany
- Life as it for Tiffany Finley is quite the revolving door, one activity ends and I’m back on the rebound, looking for something to spice it up! Live it up, I tell you! Although, those who know me well, know my limits of “living it up!” A whirlwind of terrible singing, dancing, playful banter, blunt responses, sweet and endearing but firm and serious remarks to children, speaking/slaughtering accents that I’ve spun from memory, are a just a few of my favorite things….I delight in waking to the sunrise, driving to an incredible place of work, where I am able to express my true self regularly! My students call me "Crazy. ” This is where the song and dance comes into play, whether we are learning about adjectives or writing our names on our papers, I’ve got a song and cheer for it all! I’m passionate about traveling and walking down narrow pathways. In my spare time, I enjoy taking walks in the park…I’ve been known to disappear in the dark of the night, only to be found on the swings. I also love to organize and re-organize, I can never quite get things right. I thoroughly enjoy people watching.

Wow, it does sound like you have your work cut out for you but what a great experience!
Did I mention I love my team! Me too!! I am laughing at your post. It takes me back to my first year at Taylorsville... this is only the beginning. The stories just get better and better... believe me, but it IS worth it. We are changing the future!!
